Takeaways – Healthy Eating in Bristol

Healthy eating is very essential for your general health and wellbeing. In a fast pacing world such as today, it’s not always easy to eat healthy meals. Increased work time and social engagements can place a strain on us all. Cooking healthy at home is impossible on some days for an increasing number of people. This is where restaurants or takeaways can come in handy for us all.

On almost every High Street you will find your average “junk food” outlets selling sub standard food. These foods are somewhat unhealthy for your body.

Supermarkets nowadays will sell you cheap (or expensive) sandwiches to “munch on the go” with their meal deals and a packet of crisps or a chocolate bar thrown in. This is OK I suppose now and again, but do you really want to live like this everyday of your working life?

You only have to look around and you will see that as a nation, we Brits are nowhere near as healthy as we used to be. Let’s be honest, 40 odd years ago before outlets such as Burger King, Pizza Hut or McDonalds hit our High Streets, obesity was not on the level as it is today. Why are we doing this to our bodies? My mother (who cooked healthy food everyday for the family whilst I was growing up) always told me to treat my body like a temple.

Takeaways in Bristol

Junk food takeaways on the High St are so easy to find whereas healthy food takeaways are not. I can only speak for the cities where I spend my time the most (living in Newport, working in Cardiff and visiting family and friends in Bristol and Bath). However, I’m pretty certain that the same problem lies within towns and cities up and down the country.

Fishponds in Bristol is no different to any other High Street lacking healthy food outlets. Then one day, my dad and I came across this hidden gem.

Gourmand Foods is at 1 Guinea Lane, just off the top of Fishponds Rd in Bristol, opposite NatWest bank. Friendly staff serving healthy hot and cold foods from around the globe, all under one roof.

Whenever I visit my (slowly) ageing dad I take him to Gourmand Foods for his jerk chicken, rice and peas fix. I’m confident with the full knowledge that he is getting a decent healthy meal. So if you’re ever in the Fishponds area, make sure to give Gourmand Foods a visit. They are open from 12 noon – 8pm six days a week (closed on Sundays).

Telephone orders are welcome too on 07830 939389.

Thanks Gourmand Foods for your warm and professional service, and for making sure that my ageing father is eating healthily.

Check out the menu on their Facebook page.
